Leyton is a great choice for a home given its excellent transport links, good access to schools and sports facilities and open green spaces. The area is bordered by Hackney Marshes and Wanstead Park and also has Leyton Jubilee Park in the middle. The area is also home to part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with some world class sports facilities. Leyton really has everything on its doorstep with Stratford and Westfield shopping centre nearby. Despite having all of these large facilities on its doorstep, Leyton still retains its village charm and feel and real community spirit present in the area. Leyton is one area that has and continues to receive significant funding for social and economic development of the area. Of note, is the change of demographics as more families look to settle in the area and new shops, bars and restaurants opening every day. Types of Loft Conversions in Leyton
The Victorian terraced housing stock in Leyton are well suited for dormer loft conversions and L-shaped dormer loft conversions. We have carried out quite a lot of rear l-shaped dormer loft conversions in Leyton that add not just significant space but also significant value to our clients’ homes in Leyton. For the rear L-shaped dormers we have added two bedrooms and a large bathroom or a large master suite with a dressing room and a large bathroom. In some cases, we have also converted the attic space with a velux loft conversion, where the house had good head height in the loft but needed a new roof so the clients decided to make use of the attic space. In this scenario, we reinforced the floor, carry out a full reroof and add velux windows and insulted the space. This not only makes some extra usable space but also increases the energy rating of the property alongside the value! If you want to know what you can achieve with a loft conversion in your Leyton property, give us a call today and speak with us.
Rear Single Dormer
A single dormer loft conversion is one of the most economical ways to add space to your home. It is quite a simple and straightforward process and hence one of the most popular types of loft conversions. A rear single dormer conversion usually results in the addition of a large master bedroom with ensuite / shower room to the property.
Rear L-Shaped Dormer
An L-shaped dormer loft conversion is a very popular type of conversion for Victorian properties due their existing L-shaped layout. Detached, semi-detached, terraced, conversion and purpose-built flats all lend themselves to this conversion type. The additional loft space “L-shape” extends over the rear outcrop of the ground floor.
Rear Mansard
A rear mansard loft conversion is particularly suited to Edwardian and Victorian terraced houses as well as first floor flats. The party walls are built up in brick, typically London Stock Brick allowing the conversion to be the full width of the property.
Rear L-Shaped Mansard
A rear L-shaped Mansard is very similar to a rear mansard but simply extends out over the rear of the property to form another room. An L-shaped Mansard is particularly suited to a period property and a mid-terrace property.
Hip to Gable Rear Dormer
For a hip to gable loft conversion the roof hip is removed, a new gable wall is raised from the existing walls of the house and the remaining pitched roofline is extended to meet it. The gable wall is usually built up in brick or render to match the existing gable wall.
Velux Loft Conversion
A Velux loft conversion is the simplest of all loft conversion types and is also considered the cheapest way to convert your loft space. It doesn’t require any roof extension but simply a reinforcement and internal reconfiguration of the existing loft and addition of Velux windows to one or both sides of the roof.
London Roof Loft Conversion
A London roof, also known as a butterfly roof, is one that can be converted from front to back so results in one of the largest roof extensions. This conversion type results in the addition of a whole new floor leading to the same floor space as the one below.

Case Study
Rear Dormer Loft Conversion in Leyton
For this project in Leyton, we added a small rear dormer to this property, which had an existing large unused attic space. We converted the loft adding an extra bedroom with a large dressing room and a separate large bathroom. This Leyton loft conversion added a much-needed extra bedroom to the property changing it from a three-bedroom Victorian semi-detached house to a large four-bedroom property. The large bathroom to the front benefited from 3 large Velux windows, which served to bring in lots of light to the space; it is big enough to house a bath and a large walk-in shower. The bedroom beside it had lovely large French doors to the rear with a Juliette balcony providing lots of light and a great city view. The dressing room further to the rear also had plenty of natural light flooding the space with one window to the side and another to the rear. There was plenty of room for built in wardrobes and an area to dress. Overall, a lovely addition to this property in Leyton that not only increased the space for our clients but also the value of the property.
